My First Trimester

It feels so great to finally share the news that Daniel and I are expecting! We feel so incredibly grateful for this gift from the Lord.

I know so many people are struggling with infertility right now, and I want you to know that I see you and am here for you. I’ve prayed alongside friends who are going through a season of infertility, and I believe the Lord’s timings perfect and His plan is far better than our own.

I’ve gotten lots of questions about my pregnancy journey so far so I wanted to share how we got here along with what my first trimester was like!

Daniel and I have always been so excited to have children, and we have talked about it ever since we started dating. We knew we wanted to start trying for a baby in 2020 once my last sibling got married, and we feel so blessed that we got pregnant right away. We realize that’s not the case for most people, and we will never, ever take that for granted.

I will never forget taking that pregnancy test on Monday morning while folding laundry and I was 100% expecting it to be negative. When I saw that it was positive, I almost fell on the floor.

If I hadn’t been so shocked, I would have baked something cute to surprise Daniel but I laid in bed for an hour or two googling everything. I’m pretty sure my first search was, “do pregnancy tests lie?” HA.

I knew Daniel was coming home for lunch so I ran to Chick-Fil-A and ordered his favorite meal to surprise him with the news. I wrote, “You’re going to be a daddy… I’m pregnant” on the chicken nugget box, and had it sitting on the counter when he walked in. He had NO clue and continued to eat his nuggets and fries without even noticing the writing. He eventually saw it and had the sweetest reaction ever (I saved it all on my Instagram story highlights). I’ve never seen Daniel so happy in my life, and it was one of the most special days.

The first few weeks were pretty rough for me, especially around weeks 6-9. I was SO tired and nauseous. My nausea began in the afternoons and would last all night. I could barely open the refrigerator because of the smells, so I rarely baked or cooked. Sweet Daniel took over dinner prep during those first few weeks.

There were several things that really helped me with nausea:

1. From the minute you wake up to the minute you go to sleep, try to keep food on your stomach. I tried to eat small meals all throughout the day and cereal was my best friend!

2. These preggie pops contain Vitamin B6 which really helped me.

3. Stay super hydrated and try to drink 1 gallon on water a day. I love this water bottle because it keeps you on track.

4. If you are nauseated to the point of throwing up, your doctor can prescribe you vitamin B6 which helps a lot!

5. REST. Your body is changing drastically and rest is the most important thing you can do.

A few of my other pregnancy favorites so far:

  • Ritual Prenatal Vitamins-I love that these prenatal vitamins are on a subscription so I get a new bottle each month and don’t even have to think about it. They have a slight lemon taste which I really love!

  • Earth Mama Belly Butter-I rotate between this lotion and the belly oil. I love Earth Mama products because they are super clean and contain no petroleum, mineral oil, parabens, or artificial fragrance.

  • Earth Mama Belly Oil

  • A friend of mine sent me this book when I first told her I was pregnant, and it was such a good read!

  • This might be TMI, but my bras no longer fit and are super uncomfortable, so my sister recommended this nursing/maternity bra and it has been so wonderful. I wear it all the time because it’s so comfortable, and I know it will really come in handy when the baby is here. Another one of my friends recommended this bra, and I’m excited to try it out!

This dress is from Only On The Avenue and I couldn’t love it more!

My sweet friend, Mandi, took these beautiful photos. If you’re looking for a 30A photographer, she’s your girl.

We can’t wait to meet this little baby in December, Lord willing!
